48V Boost Recuperation Machine (BRM) from SEG Automotive now available as a new "Generic Article" (GA) in TecDoc
Vehicle manufacturers have been relying on starter-generators as compact fuel and CO2 savers on the belt drive for some time now. With the warranty-related delay, the first models are now reaching the workshops. Time for SEG Automotive – one of the most important pioneers of this technology – to list the 48V BRM with all relevant data under GA 3079 (Starter-Generator).
In principle, this would have been possible for a long time, because the category was already available in TecDoc. Nevertheless, SEG Automotive has so far deliberately listed the BRM under the generic article GA 4 (Generator). The background to this decision was that a correct identification of a starter-generator requires extensive technical information – such as plug IDs or information on charging current. However, these could not be maintained in TecDoc until then.
GA 3079 clarified together with partner TecDoc
Good data quality is essential in the aftermarket – for suppliers and customers alike. Accordingly, SEG Automotive saw the opportunity for a targeted addition to the GA 3079. In close cooperation with TecDoc, the supplier further developed the category so that all essential information for starter generators can now be fed in and accessed.
Since October 1, 2025, the time has come: All additional attributes are available in TecDoc and the assignment of the 48V Boost Recuperation Machine to the extended generic article for starter generators has been made.
From now on, under GA3079, it is immediately recognizable that the SEG Automotive BRM is a 48V mild hybrid application – not a conventional generator.
48V Boost Recuperation Machine – the powerful fuel saver
The name says it all: The BRM introduces an additional 48V on-board electrical system and thus makes it possible, among other things, to store braking energy in a 48V battery (recuperation). If required, this energy is available as additional power, e.g. during overtaking maneuvers (boosting).
In addition, the 48V motor ensures a quiet comfort start, and also provides active coasting (shutting down the engine at a constant speed, maintaining speed with battery support).
All these measures reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by -15%. The reason for this is the addition of an inverter to the classic alternator that controls the additional functions.
Quality from the manufacturer
SEG Automotive is one of the pioneers of the 48V Starter Generator on the belt drive. Accordingly, many applications on the road already use the company's products today. And many OEMs continue to count on this simple way to further develop the classic combustion engine into a more economical mild hybrid.
For aftermarket customers, this has the great advantage that SEG Automotive ensures the quality of the BRM in the aftermarket by producing on the same OE lines – including the same quality inspection.
As an additional service, the supplier offers practical tips for installing the BRM in the workshops. These can be accessed on the SEG Automotive website under [Opens in a new tab] "Practical Tips".
